ORE-IDA 2012

So many times people are afraid of competition, when it should bring out the best in us. We all have talents and abilities, so why be intimidated by other people's skills? ~ Lou Holtz

Nage no Kata

"Kata and Randori are like two wheels of a car. They serve no purpose without each other. The relationship is similar to that of grammar and creative writing. Kata being the grammar upon which Randori, the creative writing of Judo, is based on. To effectively master the principles and techniques used in Randori, students must practice Kata to gain the true understanding of the essence of Judo." ~Jigoro Kano

A few of our students were able to participate in a Kata clinic given at Treasure Valley Judo Club. Thank you to Lima Sensei for allowing us to come and learn with you! Our day was well spent and our Sensei's and students enjoyed their time. We look forward to working with you again!

A Little Kohaku Shiai Amongst Friends.

BVJC invited friends from Treasure Valley and Boise State to a Kohaku Shiai. This type of competition uses the "winner stays up" method. Judoka's from all three clubs were lined up by size and divided into two teams. Each team was then lined up according to size and started the shiai with the two smallest competitors fighting. The winner would stay on the mat to fight the next biggest competitor and continue until losing, scoring points along the way. The winner would be the Judoka that scored the highest amount of points. It was a great night and a perfect opportunity to practice all that has been learned throughout the year! Take a look....
